2023-2024 Student Transportation Plan Survey August 1, 2023 We hope you are enjoying your summer break. Our staff is working hard behind the scenes to prepare for the start of the school year. One of the areas we need your help is by getting the necessary information to determine bus transportation routes. In order to set these routes, please complete this brief survey: https://bit.ly/3OF4fQZ. Ledgemere needs your input no later than this Sunday, August 6th. We are asking for this information for EACH student who rides the bus. That could mean that whether your child rides every day, only in the mornings or afternoons, or only between sports seasons, we'd still like you to complete a survey for them. Your information will help establish the need for busing to and from the York School Department schools and help improve your child’s safety, comfort, and overall experience. Transportation resources can be found on the York Schools website at https://www.yorkschools.org/page/transportation. Enjoy the last few weeks of the summer break. We look forward to a strong start to the school year. Thank you! York School Department/Ledgemere Transportation

At today's Sanford Regional Technical Center (SRTC) Advisory Committee meeting, superintendents were invited to bring guests from their districts to have conversations and lunch with SRTC students. Attending from York School Department were Superintendent Goscinski, School Committee Vice Chair Dave Herbein, and from YHS were School Counselor Kevin Beatty and Assistant Principal Liza Mockeridge. The YSD guests enjoyed meeting with talking to Dilyana Djenkova ('23), Lucian Young ('23), Olivia Lewis ('23), and Jasper Witham ('23), all YHS students attending SRTC. They had a chance to learn about the students' experiences and hear their insights. The superintendent said the four YHS students attended different SRTC programs— cosmetology, culinary arts, business and marketing, and building and trades, which made the conversation especially interesting.

The 7th and 8th grade York Middle School student council recently conducted its annual food drive for the YCSA Food Pantry. During the two-week drive, YMS students and staff brought in 325 goods for donation. The items will go to appreciative local community members. The 5th grade collected the most items, and two students were recognized as the top contributors: Aaron Gurtman (for 7th and 8th grades) and Shawn Weiner (for the 5th and 6th grades).

Happy National Volunteer Month - our favorite time of year! Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers in the York Schools! It is an exciting and unique year to see so many community members eager to help in our classrooms and schools. We had an amazing year, offering support in so many areas; mentoring our students, assisting in literacy and math, special projects, and having two very sweet therapy dogs visiting our elementary schools each week. We appreciate our volunteers and honor you for all you do.

April 4, 2023 Statement from the York School Committee Re: Superintendent Search Dear YSD parents and guardians, On Monday, the Bangor Daily News reported that Tim Doak has been selected as the next Superintendent of Schools of the York School Department. The announcement is a bit premature in that, by Maine statute, the decision to hire a superintendent of schools must be accomplished by a majority vote of the School Committee. After deliberations and discussions held in Executive Session on Wednesday evening, 29 March, the School Committee authorized the Chair to begin contract negotiations with Mr. Doak, and that process is proceeding on track to allow the required vote to occur at the regularly scheduled School Committee meeting on Wednesday, April 5. The other finalist candidate, CRES Principal Sean Murphy, was informed of the intentions of the School Committee on the morning of 30 March. A press release and more robust announcement will follow the April 5th meeting. We invite you to join our public meeting in person at the York Public Library at 7pm; the meeting is also televised and available as a recording on our website following the meeting. We appreciate the input and time invested by our school community and search committee in selecting our finalists.
