Lets celebrate going through different colors with fruits and veggies at CRES
A blast from the past! York High School students/CRES Alums "schooled" our third graders in economics. Students learned the difference between wants and needs and took part in a real-life simulation that taught them the importance of budgeting. It was so much fun having our CRES grads visit with us again!
Three little munchkins arrived at Coastal Ridge and surprised us with beautiful flowers and baskets full of goodies in honor of Staff Appreciation Week!
Many thanks go out to all our parents who brightened our days in so many different ways throughout Staff Appreciation Week. From delicious breakfast and lunches to these delightful pansies potted in varied ceramic pots that put smiles on our faces. We're fortunate to feel so supported!
Students who wished to, donned #42 on their face and hands to celebrate Jackie Robinson Day (a Civil Rights Team initiative) with the help of Mrs. Lane, Ms. Jade and parent volunteers. In 1947, Jackie joined the Brooklyn Dodgers as the first African American to play in Major League Baseball. He showed great courage, integrity, fierce determination and persistence in his commitment to social justice.
"Wake Up and Read!" is held most Wednesday mornings in our library starting at 7:45 am. Parents, grandparents and even siblings are welcome to enjoy a quiet start to their Wednesday with a good book. There will only be three more "Wake Up and Read!" Wednesday's so please join us before they wrap up for the year. Thank you to our volunteer, Linda Goulette, for encouraging our young readers.

Captain Bion Pike, a local York sailor and currently Harbor Master in Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA teaches 3rd grade students about maritime history, skills and practices. This is a great lesson that compliments the 3rd grade Maine curriculum. Captain Pike volunteers his time and has been visiting Coastal Ridge for over 10 years. Thank you Captain Pike for another great year!
On Wednesday, April 26th we had an amazing assembly by the Portland Symphony Orchestra's brass quintet who accompanied a reading of Chris Van Dusen's The Circus Ship!

We want to give a big thank you to Molly Lavecchia, leader of the CRES Parent Group Green Team, who organized a fun and exciting Green Team Fun Fest this past Friday, April 14th! There was face painting, a tie-dye shirt station, a bubble machine (‘cause who doesn’t love bubbles!) and raffle prizes. Students and families helped to gather trash throughout the week leading up to the event. They were able to get 85 bags of litter, plus a bait bucket and some rusty metal off of the streets of York. They raised $3,000 which will help continue green programs at CRES that will benefit all. Thanks to everyone who participated and made this a huge success!

Volunteer Appreciation Month
STAGES Youth Theater has performed in our 2nd-grade classrooms the past couple of weeks. The program, “Exploring American Historical Figures Through Theater”, complements our 2nd-grade Biography unit.
King George Day at Coastal Ridge is a fun day where 4th grade teachers act as British Royals and Loyalists to bring to life their classroom lessons related to the American Revolution. Here are some of our 4th Grade teachers reading the "rules" of King George Day. Students are lightheartedly taxed in this fun day of learning through role-play.
Mrs. Ring and her students take diligent notes and as classmates present their Maine projects on topics such as black bears, moose, The Portland Pirates, the white pine tree (one of Maine's state symbols) and even York's own Woody's pizza!
Students from Mrs. LeBlanc's class posed thoughtful questions as a fellow classmate presented her project on Maine tourmaline.
