York School Department Names Timothy Doak as Superintendent

York, Maine -  The York School Committee is pleased to announce that Timothy Doak has been selected to lead and oversee education in York’s four public schools as the next Superintendent of Schools for the York School Department (YSD). The Committee voted in favor of hiring Mr. Doak at its public meeting held on April 5 at the York Public Library.

Doak is currently the Superintendent of Schools for both the Eastern Aroostook RSU 39 (Caribou and Stockholm) and RSU 86/MSAD No. 20 (Fort Fairfield) school systems. While leading the two school systems, he recently oversaw the completion of a new Caribou Community School and navigated his districts through challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Doak is set to become the Superintendent in York beginning after the conclusion of the 2022/2023 school year.

A York School Committee (YSC) statement read:
“The YSC would like to thank members of the superintendent search committee, staff, and those who participated in the full day of district tours, and the teachers, parents, and students who participated in panel discussions. The extensive search process leaves us confident Mr. Doak will be a visionary leader of YSD and a wonderful addition to our community. Tim is excited to be in York and looks forward to engaging with students, staff, town businesses, and citizens.”

In 2018, Doak received Maine’s prestigious Superintendent of the Year Award for serving as superintendent in RSU 20 (Fort Kent), RSU 39, and RSU 86, all in Aroostook County. Doak grew up in Fort Fairfield, where he attended schools through high school and earned his Bachelor’s in Education from the University of Maine at Presque Isle. He earned his Master’s in Secondary Education from the University of Maine and an Educational Leadership Certificate with Advanced Studies at the University of Southern Maine in 2000.

Doak began his educational career in the Madawaska School District, where he taught social studies for eight years and became an assistant principal, a principal, and Superintendent. Doak was also the high school principal for seven years and Superintendent for four years in Fort Kent. He was named President of the Maine Principals’ Association from 2007-2008 after serving the association in various positions for over a decade.

Doak served one term on the University of Maine System Board of Trustees, the Aroostook Mental Health Center Board of Directors, and the State Advisory Board for Maine’s JMG Program. He is the education representative for Aroostook Partnership and chairs the Education to Industry Committee for Aroostook County.
