Robotics students building robots

The York Education Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 2004. Since then, the foundation has been funding many worthwhile programs and projects through the grant process. The more creative the project, the more innovative the idea, and the more students and staff impacted by the proposed work, the better the chance that the initiative will be funded by the York Education Foundation (YEF). Of course, in order to financially support a project, YEF needs to know about the idea. With the end of March comes the close of the submission period for grant proposals. The entire York Schools staff are invited to consider writing a grant. Visit www.yorkeducationfoundation.or... for more information on grant criteria and applications.

Did you know that smart boards for CRES classrooms began with a proposal from an educator at Coastal Ridge Elementary? Another educator proposed the greenhouse at York Middle School. A high school teacher submitted a grant for Portable Displays for the York Community Auditorium, and the Yoga 4 Classrooms at Village Elementary School came to life following a grant proposal. Robotics teams at both York Middle and High Schools were proposed by staff and have become vital district programs. What do these projects and programs have in common? You guessed it. They were all initially funded by York Education Foundation.

To see exceptional projects come to fruition, YEF volunteers donate their time, energy, and brainpower to put on events that raise community awareness, excitement, and financial support. After COVID, YEF board members and friends are back to work with renewed determination to raise grant money. The York Education Foundation is looking for additional individuals to join their efforts.

According to YEF board member Brenda Gamache, “We would love to see more people get involved, whether that means attending monthly meetings or donating an hour here and there.” Friends of YEF can be parents, community members, and even grandparents.
