Timothy L. Doak, Superintendent

Timothy L. Doak has been with the York School Department since July 1, 2023. Before working for the York School Department, Doak was the superintendent of schools for both Eastern Aroostook RSU 39 (Caribou and Stockholm) in July 2015 and RSU 86/MSAD No 20 (Fort Fairfield) in July 2016.  He was awarded Maine’s 2018 Superintendent of the Year.  Before being promoted to MSAD No. 27 Superintendent of Schools in 2010, Doak served as the principal of Community High School in Fort Kent for seven years. As principal, he helped create the Pleasant Street Academy Early College Program in partnership with the University of Maine at Fort Kent. He was also named President of the Maine Principals’ Association in 2007-2008, where he held various positions within the association on both the Interscholastic Management Committee and Professional Management Committee from 1995 to 2010.   

Doak served one term on the University of Maine System Board of Trustees, the Aroostook Mental Health Center Board of Directors, and the State Advisory Board for Maine’s JMG Program. He was the education representative for the Aroostook Partnership and chairs the Education to Industry Committee for Aroostook County. He was also a member of the Maine School Superintendents Association Executive Board for Maine School Superintendents. 

Doak was the 2018 honoree of the University of Southern Maine Wall of Achievement for his accomplishments during his career in Maine education.  Doak also received the MSSA Outstanding Leadership Award for his work within the state organization. In 2008, Doak was a Bezos Scholar when he attended the Big Ideas Festival in Aspen, Colorado.  Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, funded the trip and the award. In 2016, Doak was inducted into the Fort Fairfield High School Athletic Hall of Fame, and in 2024, Doak was also inducted into the Fort Fairfield High School Hall of Fame.

Doak grew up in Fort Fairfield, Maine, graduated from Fort Fairfield High School, and currently resides with his wife, Kathy, in Freeport, Maine.  Doak holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Maine at Presque Isle, a Master of Secondary Education Degree from the University of Maine, and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern Maine. His interests include traveling, skiing, mountain biking, and road cycling.
