Community and Grandparent Volunteers

Become a Community or Grandparent Volunteer

Join the York Schools Community Volunteer Program. Enjoy the personal satisfaction that comes from working with elementary and secondary school students, teachers and administrators. We work with volunteers of all ages who bring their unique experiences and knowledge to our young people. Your presence within the schools reminds students and school staff of the value of community members.

What does a Community volunteer do?

Volunteers can help in many ways. Whether you are helping in the classroom or library, reading to young students, or participating in general office assistance, you are a valued part of the educational team, helping teachers and students.

Are special skills needed?

No. All you need to bring is yourself. The Community Volunteer Program has a need and a place for you with your talents and experiences.

How much time is involved?

However much time you are able to spare. A few hours a day, week, or month. It is all up to you.

Who benefits from my volunteering?

Most of all, our students benefit. As they learn to work with and communicate with adults, they learn that adults care about them and their schools. As a volunteer, you, too, will benefit. You will meet new friends, learn new skills, and experience the joy of helping others.

The Community Program is designed to meet two important needs in York; that of our students who experience the special interest and community volunteers themselves who find their skills valued and appreciated.

How do I get involved?

The Community Volunteer Program is part of the York Schools Volunteer Programs. The program director recruits, interviews and places volunteers in the York School System with the concurrence of the school administrations. We invite you to fill out an application online and we will get back to you to let you know we have received your application and discuss how you would like to help. You will find the application and our Volunteer Handbook in the forms section of this site.

We look forward to hearing from you!
