School Nurse

YHS Nursing Office

My name is Sarah La Croix and I am the school nurse at York High School! My goal is to keep the student population as healthy as possible through communication, education and health awareness. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any health concerns or changes.

When to stay home

  • Temp greater than 100.4

  • Vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hrs

  • Red, itchy, weepy eyes

Contagious infections

  • Pneumonia

  • Strep throat

  • Bacterial skin infections

  • Stay home 24-48 hours after starting antibiotics (at least 3 doses)

Flu

  • Students must stay home until they have been fever free for 24 hours

Conjunctivitis

There are three types of conjunctivitis: Viral, bacterial and allergic. Both viral and bacterial are extremely contagious. Students must seek treatment from a physician if they are displaying signs and symptoms of conjunctivitis. If bacterial, students may return to school after medical treatment (usually eye drops) for 24 hours. If viral, symptoms need to be resolved prior to returning to school. Please let the school nurse know the diagnosis.
