English Learners

English Language Learners

The York School Department welcomes multicultural and linguistically diverse students from all countries and backgrounds. The York English Language Learner (ELL) program is designed for students whose primary language is not English, speak no English language or may have limited English proficiency in any of the four domains; speaking, reading, listening and writing. The ELL program provides a range of services for all levels of language in order to assist students to be successful in school and meet state and local academic standards. State and federal laws require that school districts provide supports to English Language Learners and that they measure student progress annually, using the WIDA ACCESS.
