Pedometers are step counters. They measure the amount of steps you take. There are sophisticated ones that measure calories burned and use your stride and body weight as factors and there are simple ones that just measure steps.

We use these in 2nd grade PE classes as a way of measuring how much we exercise. They are great motivators!

If you already have one and would like to participate in some fun activities and motivators check out maineinmotion.org. Sign up, get a username and password and then check out the Governor's Challenge. You can also sign your child up at PE Central's Log It! page and they can keep track of their steps every day, participate in challenges and earn rewards for participating.

If you would like to purchase a pedometer, check out these sites;

New Lifestyles (we use a pedometer very similar to the SW-200 in PE class)

Look at what we are working on in 2nd grade! We are combining all of our steps to make it to destinations around the state.
