Upon graduating in 1947, I went to work doing bookkeeping at Perkins Motor Sales, now known as Starkey Ford. I worked there a few years & moved to St. Petersburg, Fla. to live with friends of my parents.
I met my first husband there while I was working at a Finance Co. We had one son, and moved to New Bedford , Mass. We worked there a few years and I had my second son. We then moved back to St. Petersburg , Fla. where I again worked for a Finance Co. We had a daughter at this time. After a few years I got a divorce and moved to Tulsa , Oklahoma with the kids and my mother. I met and married my second husband and got 3 wonderful step-children, altho one has since died.
Moving around has brought some wonderful memories and friends that I keep in touch with. We moved to Bella Vista , Ark. where my husband died 17 years ago. I worked for a maintenance co. for 10 years.
After my husband died, I sold my house and moved to Branson , Missouri . a wonderful place to live. Especially Silver Dollar City . It is a great place to take the family, very safe place for children. One way in and the same way out. Very protected and you can turn the kids loose and let them enjoy. I worked for a theater for 2 years and when it was sold I was out of work for a short time. I then moved to Mesa , Arizone to be with my children. I have 5 children, 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren.
I love being retired. I have worked every year since graduating. A lot of jobs along the way, too many to mention. Been a wonderful time, been places I have only dreamed about, we even got to see the swallows come back to Capistrano, it was fantastic! But there is no place like home.
I now am having problems with my knees, aggravated by having a head-on collision, seat belts saved my life. The first accident I ever had all those years of driving, and it wasn't even my fault. I only have to be in a wheelchair when I have to be moving around for a long time, such as shopping. I decided not to have knee surgery as I feel the less you mess with your bones, the better off you are.
I would love to get back to York to live. My step-daughter & her family come to York Beach each year as they store a motor home there. She has always loved York .
I live in the valley here in Mesa , gets to be 112/115 in the summer. Don't know how the Indians ever lived as long as they did. It is cooler when you get up into the mountains in Flagstaff . My oldest son lives with me, he is a plumber but into computers, so keeps my in condition and up and running. I do a lot of emails and keep in touch with Elena Fiske. There is not much I can do but emails, tv and read 25 books every two weeks.
Enough boring stories. When I win the lottery I will be back in York in a hurry. In the meantime, regards to all. Have a great life. Connie |
