volunteer hours invested in our community.

volunteers, and 150 businesses participating in our Job Shadow Program.

Become
a Grandparent Volunteer
Join
our local Grandparent Volunteer Program in the York area.
Enjoy the personal satisfaction of working with the elementary
and secondary school students, teachers, and administrators.
As a volunteer you will bring your own experience and knowledge
to our young people, and your presence within the schools will help
everyone to appreciate the real value of living to be a "grandperson"
|

What
Does a Grand Person Do?
A
Grand Person can help in many ways; tutoring individuals, helping in the
classroom or library, reading to young students to name a few.
You will be part of the educational team, helping teachers and
students, office assistance, publishing center and listeners.
Special
Skills Needed?
NO.
All you need to bring is yourself.
The Grandparent Program has a need and a place for you with your
individual talents and experiences.
|
 |
|
Time
Involved?
We need whatever time you can spare.
A few hours a day, week, or month.....it's all up to you.
|
|
Who
Benefits?
Most
of all, the students. They
will learn to work with and communicate with adults.
They will learn that older adults do care about their schools.
You, as a Grand Person will also benefit.
You will meet new friends, learn new skills, and experience the
joy of helping others.
It's
a fact, the Grandparent Program is designed to meet two important needs
in York; that of our students who would profit from the special interest
and caring of older people and the elders themselves who will find their
skills valued and appreciated. Students
need the opportunity to interact with the older generation.
Grandparents may discover new joys utilizing their talents and
skills.

Become
A "S.H.I.P.S." Mentor |
|
|
| We
would like you to work with the youth in our community.
There is nothing like individual one-on-one attention to help a
student achieve academic goals and set high aspirations for themselves.
Whether the student's needs be social, emotional, or educational,
your support, caring, and time can make a difference in a child's life
and school experience.
Mentoring can also make a difference in your life - a very
positive and rewarding difference. |
|
What
is a Mentor?
A mentor is an individual who spends quality time with a student.
A mentor acts as a positive adult role model, a caring friend and
a good listener in order to help their student make a successful
transition toward adulthood. The
goal of the program is to build student's self-esteem, inspire their
hopes and dreams, and help increase academic achievement. |
