POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION DESCRIPTION:   

                                Computer Technician

QUALIFICATIONS:         

Competency with workstation applications and operating systems.  Problem solving, analytical, and documentation skills are required as well as inter/intrapersonal skills.  Physical ability to unpack, lift and move computer workstations and peripherals as needed.

Such qualifications as the York School Department may find appropriate and acceptable

REPORTS TO:             

                                Director of Technology/Chief Network Administrator

POSITION GOAL:          

Receive, set up, configure, and test new school technology.  Maintain and repair existing hardware.  Install and configure necessary workstation software.  Responsibilities are generally from the "wall-to-the-end-user"

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Hardware/Infrastructure - Maintain, install, monitor, configure, troubleshoot and repair all workstation hardware (computers, NICs, memory, printers, scanners, PDAs, CD/DVD, etc.) Perform regular updates as necessary.
  • Network Services - Routinely assist the Network Administrator with monitoring and maintaining the health of all services.  Maintain a secure network environment which protects the integrity of user data. Troubleshoot conflicts and resolve IP, IRQ, etc., issues.  
  • Software - Install and configure client applications and support proper software licensing.
  • Training - Provide assistance to end-users, other technicians and Network Administrators when appropriate.
  • Collaboration - Take part in team decision-making, vision/direction-setting, as well as infrastructure development and application.  Stay current with technological advances pertaining to the educational environment.  Is responsive to educational need and users at all appropriate levels.
  • Communication - Attend all technology committee meetings.  Communicate regularly via email and other electronic protocols.
  • Budget - Assist with the development and management of the school technology budget.  Maintain a process for ordering new equipment and disposing of outdated hardware.  Maintain an ongoing relationship with technology and telecommunications vendors and act as liaison between the school and identified vendors.  Maintain a parts and supply inventory.
  • Documentation - Maintain records of repairs, orders, installations and other technical aspects of the position.
  • A/V support - Manage, coordinate repair and support all audio/visual equipment used in the school for educational purposes.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology, Network Administrator, Principal, or designee.

  • Contract, salary, and benefits as prescribed by the York School Department
  • EVALUATION:             
  •         Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Director of Technology and reported to the Superintendent of Schools and Administrative Team.
