York School Department recognizes its obligation under state and federal law to program for students with disabilities in the least restrictive educational environment. Toward that end, York school Department shall ensure that, to the maximum extent appropriate, students with disabilities are educated with children who are not disabled, and that special education, separate schooling or other removal of students with disabilities from the regular educational envioronment occurs only when the nature or severity of the disability is such that education in regular classes with the use of supplementary aids and services cannot be achieved satisfactoriy.
All determinations regarding programming in the least restrictive environment shall be made by the Individual Education Plan and shall draw upon a multidisciplinary assessment of the student's needs. York School Department has available the full continuum of alternative placements when making placement determinations. |
