Pandemic Flu Information
Dear Parents and Community Members,
Welcome to the Pandemic Flu Planning link of the York Schools website.
Contained in this link are all related correspondences that have been sent home to parents as well as links to other sites that we have reviewed. We feel these additional sites may be helpful in providing you with resources that will enable you to better understand and prepare for a potential Pandemic Flu outbreak.
The York School Department has been making plans in the event of a potential outbreak through the work of the Pandemic Flu Leadership Team. This team is comprised of Eileen Brault, Physical Education teacher at Coastal Ridge Elementary School, Debbie Adams, School Nurse at York Middle School, Alalia Thaler, Guidance Counselor at York High School, Dr. Michael Gauthier, School Physician, and Dr. Henry Scipione, Superintendent of Schools. This leadership team has been meeting since June 2006 to prepare a plan for the school response to a Pandemic Flu outbreak. Our Pandemic Flu Leadership Team is working in concert with similar teams established by the Town of York and York Hospital. The three groups meet regularly to coordinate community efforts for addressing a potential Pandemic Flu outbreak. The work of these groups is ongoing and will continue as the possibility of an outbreak exists.
We have also been working with York County Superintendents Association, Maine Department of Education, York County Emergency Management, the Maine Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Federal CDC. The goal is to create a response to a potential Pandemic Flu outbreak that is aligned with the directives and recommendations of these groups. This work is ongoing as more and more information is being made available.
The most significant deterrent to a potential Pandemic Flu outbreak is the common, everyday practice of good hygiene including hand washing, cough containment, and social distancing. As parents and community members you assume an important role in the prevention and containment of a flu outbreak by reinforcing these and other intervention steps. Contained in this link are resources you can use to prepare yourself and your family for a potential flu outbreak.
We hope you find this information useful, and together we can put forward our best effort to address the effects of a Pandemic Flu outbreak.
