The Maine Learning Results, Parameters for Essential Instruction were adopted in October 2007, following a state-directed review and revision process. The adoption of these new standards by the Maine legislature necessitated a complete K-12 curriculum review and realignment process for all subject areas. Revised curricula were completed for grades K-8 between January 2008 and April 2009; with revisions to grades 9-12 curricula completed in 2011. The subsequent adoption of the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics by the State of Maine in 2011, has resulted in the alignment of the K-12 Math curriculum to these new standards during the 2011-2012 school year, with the alignment of the English Language Arts standards planned for 2012-2013, reflecting the the York School Department's cycle of review and revision articulated in our Strategic Plan. This chart summarizes the cycle.
