Career and Education Development Curriculum

The York School Department K-12 Curriculum Teams have aligned the York K-12 Curriculum to the Revised Maine Learning Results, Parameters for Essential Instruction in career and education development.

In kindergarten through grade 7, career and education development is taught in an integrated manner in the classroom, with special activities such as Career Day and specific programs presented by the school counselors. Responsive Classroom is the primary tool for elementary instruction in this area.

In grade 8, all students participate in a trimester-long course in Family and Consumer Science that focuses on the standards addressed in career and education development. At York High School, students take a Careers and Computers course in grade 9, participate in TEAM activities for all four years and experience Career Quest as Juniors. They also use the Bridges Program over their four years at YHS to document their career planning efforts.
