Professional Development in York

The York School Department maintains a strong commitment to providing a coordinated and comprehensive professional development program for educators.

Guided by the York's Educational Strategic Plan and the Professional Development Plan, the York Administrative Team and the K-12 Leadership Team coordinate professional development offerings that include:
  • Courses on-site in York for both graduate credit and Continuing Education Units
  • A menu of workshops and mini-courses in a variety of formats
  • A yearly Summer Institute that brings together educators from various school systems for shared professional development
  • A focus on technology integration offerings
  • Professional Learning Communities that support continued professional reflection and growth at each school
  • Leadership opportunities through K-12 Teams
  • Collaboration with local universities, including the University of Southern Maine, the University of New Hampshire and Lesley College
  • Tuition reimbursement options for advanced studies

An on-line system for course registration provides communication about professional development offerings and simplifies the process of signing up for on-site college courses, workshops and mini-courses.

York teachers are encouraged to pursue certification
National Board Certification through a rigorous, competitive process.
