I feel very fortunate to be in my 6th year as principal of Coastal Ridge Elementary School.  We have a unique climate that puts our students first.  As a result, we depend on many who assist us in doing what’s right and what’s best.  It’s exciting to be part of such a motivated staff serving such an involved community.
I began my career in education as an Americorps volunteer in Oregon where I taught children in Spanish.  I returned to the east coast to teach 5th and 6th grade in a Boston prep school.  As a result, I have learned to be an idealist and an experimentalist.  Schools are positive, healthy places where teachers constantly tweak their practice to help students achieve.  If something is not working, we should question it and adjust to teach more effectively.  In my years as an assistant principal in a Vermont school that serves children k-8 and here at CRES, I have consistently wondered how we can improve our efforts, and I am excited about the professional learning community model that we have in place at CRES.
In these economic times, we are put to a test.  How can we more efficiently serve children, maintain the level of achievement, and instill confidence in children with a safe, dynamic, fun educational program?  At CRES, we are constantly individualizing programs, streamlining how we work, and seeking feedback on how to improve.  We invite any parent or community member to share perspectives or thoughts on how we can better serve you.  Just click on my email link above.  Thank you for taking the time to be a part of Coastal Ridge.
