Smartboard Users Group - Lawson

In this breakout session, educators will get a chance to share, reflect and gain ideas about using SMART technologies in their lessons with their colleagues. Presentations will include, SMART Notebook lessons, Senteo student assessment systems, and using the SMART document camera in a lesson. Please bring your laptop and a SMART Notebook lesson to share with the group. A users group is available within FirstClass to share and collaborate called "SMARTboard Resources" under the conferences group. There is also an online database of activities, lessons and units created by teachers at www.smarttech.com

First Class Users Group - Martin

FirstClass Version 10 has been out now for a couple of months.  This session will:

  • Introduce participants to the new social networking tools built into this new FirstClass
  • Explore some of the little known features that FirstClass provides
  • Answer any questions anyone has about how to use FirstClass successfully

Web Page Design - Thompson

"Been thinking about starting a class webpage, but need some direction? Have  a class webpage started but haven't had time to put the finishing touches on it to go live? This session will address the various software used for web page creation in the York Schools. Bryan will focus on FirstClass and iWeb help throughout the session, allowing participants time to work.  Please bring your laptop! See Bryan prior to March 19 if you have questions.

Web 2.0 - Borden

What is Web 2.0 and where does it fit into your classroom? We will look at a variety of sites for both teacher and student use and how they can be used to display content knowledge, collaborate, be creative and to assess student learning.

Data Analysis Tools (NWEA, CPAA, MEA, NECAP) - Minard

Interested in learning how to access and use the data contained in the on-line reports of the MEA, NECAP, NWEA or CPAA assessments to help plan instruction? This session will provide guidance in navigating the reports sites and time for your own data analysis work. Bring your laptops and see what an afternoon of data mining can yield.

Social Networking Pros and Cons - Sirois/Hawkins

Participate in a presentation and guided discussion of how educators can harness the power of cyberspace to use the tools our students have at their fingertips for communication and learning. Discuss how the "social" part of social networks can enhance education and weigh the challenges of oversight, accountability, monitoring, moderation, and guidance in using social networking tools effectively.

iWork - Murphy

This session will provide a brief introduction to the iWork platform:  Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.  Depending on attendance, there is potential for individualized exploration of the Pages writing documents, the Numbers graphing capabilities, and the Keynote presentation tools.

Hyperstudio - Moulton

Have you ever wondered about this program that is on your computer, but never dared to try? Hyperstudio is an exciting multi-media authoring tool! While similar to Powerpoint and Keynote, Hyperstudio lets you create cards/slides that can be displayed in a non-linear fashion - the next card to be shown will depend on which answer you select. This session will be a brief introduction to Hyperstudio. You will become familiar with the tools and authoring capabilities of this versatile program.

Team Room Technology - Carbone

Learn how to operate our new lighting system in the YMS Team Room. Be a part of a brainstorming session to determine the different ways this new space can be used as part of classroom instruction or as an evening presentation area for projects or speakers.
