York School Department Assessment
Assessment plays several important roles in the York Schools:
Assessment provides information on individual student academic growth.
Assessment results guide the York School Department in curricular and programmatic review and revision.
MEA and MHSA Assessments meet State and Federal accountability requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act.
Student assessment results serve as one measure of accountability to the community of York.
Individual student achievement is documented and communicated through class grades, report cards, student and parent conferences and frequent home-school communication.
Power School allows parents to access student progress information electronically at the middle and high school levels.
- The NWEA Measures of Academic Progress are electronic assessments administered twice each year to students in grades three through nine that provide rich sources of data on student growth in reading, language usage and mathematics.
- Students in kindergarten through second grade participate in the Children's Progress Academic Assessment This developmentally appropriate, computer-delivered assessment engages our youngest learners in interactive, auditory and visual assessment experience in the areas of language arts and mathematics.
- The New England Common Assessment Program is used to measure student achievement in grades three through eight yearly. This federally-mandated assessment is used to determine individual student progress toward meeting the Maine Learning Results and is required by NCLB. Students in grades three through eight are assessed in reading and mathematics, with additional assessments in writing for students in grades 5 and 8.
- Students in Grade 11 take the Maine High School Assessment (SAT).
- Tenth grade students participate in PSAT testing.
- Students whose special education plans (IEPs) establish the need for individualized progress documentation are given an alternative assessment called the PAAP.
